If you purchase a computer by a participating manufacturer between June 26, 2009 and January 31, 2010 that is preloaded with Windows Vista® Home Premium, Windows Vista® Business, or Windows Vista® Ultimate, you may be eligible to upgrade to a corresponding edition of Windows® 7. Most applications that run in Windows Vista will work in Windows 7.
Microsoft has advised that coverage is already at very high levels thanks to Vista and most drivers that work in Vista are going to work in Windows 7. Most manufacturers will also release Windows 7 drivers for their newer products.
No, there is no upgrade path from Windows XP. You must upgrade to Vista first then upgrade to Windows 7 or format your system and install a fresh copy of Windows 7.
Yes. A DVD drive is required in order to install the Windows 7 Upgrade media
The following are the Microsoft minimum hardware recommendations for systems that will be running Windows 7: 1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor, 1 GB of system memory, 16 GB of available disk space, Support for DirectX 9 graphics with 128 MB memory (to enable the Aero theme), DVD-R/W Drive, Internet access. Note: Some product features of Windows 7 such as the ability to watch and record live TV or touch screen navigation may require advanced or additional hardware.

Yes. Qualifying editions of Windows Vista that were downgraded to Windows XP are eligible for upgrade. Note that upgrading from a downgraded version of Windows Vista requires you to either Upgrade back to your original Windows Vista edition using recovery media that came with your PC and then perform an upgrade to Windows 7 in order to retain installed applications and settings or Upgrade from Windows XP downgrade directly to Windows 7 by doing a clean installation of Windows 7 (Please note you will lose access to previously installed applications and settings using this method)

February 28, 2010 is the last date for qualifying end users to submit Upgrade media redemption orders.
The media will ship 22 October 2009 from overseas so please allow adequate shipping time.
